Las Gemelas waterfalls in Bajos del Toro

The Gemelas waterfalls (the twins) are located in bajos del toro, Costa Rica. There are, at least, two different ways to reach them, both of them being through a private farm (surprise).

They are two waterfalls from two different rivers that converge almost at the same point, which makes a breathtaking view.

Through the access before mentioned in the table, it costs 7$ and you will be able to visit La Celestial waterfall (quite near) and Roca Verde. It's not necessary to book in advance..Through the other farm, you can't visit Roca Verde but you can go to Pozas Azules instead.

To reach this waterfall, you will have to drive through the main road of Bajos del Toro (708) and take the exit to "Finca dos Ríos" (The road is called "Calle de las Delicias"). Both roads are not well paved, but you can make it even with a Fiat PuntoYou can leave the car on the side of "Calle de las Delicias".

This area is usually foggy or rainy, doesn't matter the season it is. It might rain at any time, so expect a muddy and slippery trail. Along the path there are pieces of wood on the floor that will help you.

After walking for almost one hour, you will reach a suspension bridge, and after it, you will see a fork. You have to take the left path avoiding the cabin that is on the right. Continue and after crossing the river again, you will see a barn behind a fence. This is the entrance of the farm where you will have to pay the access. However, you might enter for free if no one's there... Continue that path down the hill until you reach another fork, on the left is the trail leading to Las Gemelas while on the right takes you to La Celestial waterfall. The path is well indicated. Follow the panels and you will reach the waterfall.

The hiking is not difficult even though the mud makes it a bit tiring. The area of the waterfall is very slippery.

It's not busy, it's not a typical place for "Domingueros". People go, see it and leave. Well, the bravest ones might swim.

Even though it's unlikely to spot any exotic animal, you will be able to enjoy the sounds of the forest/river.

The price you pay is worth it for the three waterfalls I mention. It's a beautiful landscape and the color of the water is spectacular.
