Chocoalte Tour and Night Walk in Finca Don Juan - Arenal

The activity takes place in the evening, at Finca Don Juan. You have to book in advance, which can be done through airbnb or their website.

You can easily park in the farm. The roads are good, even with a Fiat Punto you can make it.

This experience is divided in two parts, the chocolate tour and the night tour.

You will learn the whole process from the bean to the delicious chocolate products. You will see the tools they use, plagues they are facing, and you can even try a cacao bean from a freshly cut cocoa pod (strongly recommended). Once the explanation is finished, you will be able to grind the dried and fermented cocoa beans to make your own chocolate bar. After that, you will have the opportunity to taste several types of chocolate such as Dark Chocolate, Milk Chocolate and White Chocolate.

After finishing the chocolate adventure, you will tour the farm to discover the extraordinary nightlife and will be able to see a variety of frogs and toads species such as the Giant Toad, the big chicken eater frog, the small “Jewels of the Forest” like the Hourglass Frog and the most popular frog of Costa Rica, the Red-Eyed Frog. If you are lucky, you can also see some species of insects, mammals such as sloths and raccoons.

At the end of the experience, you can buy a memory / consumable at the shop.Besides, you will be able to try different kinds of coffee they produce in another farm located in Monteverde.

The groups can consist from 2 up to 8 people, it will depend on how many people have booked. The Spanish tours are usually less busy though. Jeude, one of the guides, deserves a special mention. His explanations will draw your attention and will raise your interest. His enthusiasm is contagious

You can’t leave without trying their white chocolate that is still made of cocoa butter unlike the big majority of white chocolates on the market nowadays that contain mainly milk products, even in the fanciest chocolate shops.

At first glance, it might seem expensive, although all the night walks around the area cost at least 25$, so the chocolate tour + night walk is an interesting package.
