Sleep in a Cabin Tree - La Tigra Lodge

La Tigra Rainforest is a lodge in the middle of a tropical forest. It’s located in Arenal volcano area, 50 minutes by car from La Fortuna.

The roads are ok. The last section is a bit tricky. A dirt bumping road, but you can make it even with a Fiat Punto. You can leave the car in a parking lot next to the lodge.

They are independent cabins hanging from the trees or from a ledge. There are only three walls in the cabin, the fourth one is a curtain and a piece of plastic to keep the sun out. You will be in the middle of the jungle. Don’t worry about the bugs and insects. if you set the curtain up properly, they will not be able to visit you. The sound of the animals (chirps, croaks,squeaks, coos …) at night and at sunrise time is incredible.

You can book on their website or through booking. The price varies in function of the season you are or the busy it is (from 54€ to 120€). Breakfast is included.

The hotel includes some hikes along the rainforest, a swimming pool, and an ecological farm. In addition to this, other activities are available such as a night walk (20€ more) or birdwatching tours. Around the area you can also do rafting, canopy, go to Tenorio volcano, walk in the Bosque Eterno de los Niños or visit some waterfalls, for instance, La Fortuna waterfall.

You can see frogs around the lodge. Snakes are not that common. If you get up early, you will be able to spot different species of birds.

As an experience it is quite cool, but I wouldn’t spend all my holidays there.
