If you enjoy sunbathing, the beaches Cat Co 1, Cat Co 2, and Cat Co 3 are the most accessible and convenient ones in Cat Ba. They are located consecutively on the southwest part of the island.
You can easily reach the parking lot by scooter (here). Some locals will ask you to pay 10.000 VND for parking against watching over your vehicle.
The beaches are beautiful but not very secluded. They all feature fine-grained sand and palm trees. However, the underwater visibility for snorkeling is limited. Wave conditions vary depending on the tides and wind, ranging from large waves to calm waters.
They are a bit touristy. It will depend on the season and the number of guests staying at nearby hotels (as there is at least one hotel near each beach). They tend to be busier on weekends in June and July. Facilities such as restaurants, sunbeds, and umbrellas are available. We recommend you to carry cash, as some establishments may not accept credit cards.
A scenic coastal path offers breathtaking panoramic views of the bay and the surrounding islets. As you walk along the path, you will encounter the three beaches in the following order: Cat Co 3, Cat Co 1, and Cat Co 2.
Cat Co 3
Cat Co 3 is the first beach in the array of Cat Co beaches (here). It is only 150m away from the parking lot. There is an area with sunbeds and umbrellas right next to the palm trees.
There is a wooden bar shaped like a boat where you can have a drink or a snack while enjoying the views of the beach and the islets in the bay.
If you continue walking towards Cat Co 1, you will have a panoramic view of the beach, the mountains, and the bay.
Cat Co 1 Beach
After a 5-minute walk along the seaside path, you will arrive at Cat Co 1 beach (here). This walk offers stunning views of the bay and its islets.
There are two large hotels adjacent to this beach, one of which has several pools and water slides. Cat Co 1 beach provides many amenities such as sunbeds, sofas, swings, umbrellas, kayak rentals, and a mini beach football court.
Cat Co 2 Beach
To reach Cat Co 2 beach (here), continue walking behind the hotel and take the first road to the right. It is only 300m away from the previous beach.
Next to the sea, there is an infinity pool belonging to the hotel. Additionally, you will find islets right in front of this beach that can be reached by swimming.
You may find a significant amount of microplastics and styrofoam on the beaches. Moreover, during the busiest months, the beaches might not be as clean as they should be.
If you are tired from a hike or a boat tour, these beaches are a great and accessible option for a relaxing time.
