Trung Trang Cave is located in Cat Ba National Park, in northern Vietnam. The limestone caves in Cat Ba have taken between 11,000 and 700,000 years to form. They are the result of water seeping into cracks and gradually eroding the limestone, creating larger cavities.
The cave entrance can be found here. Once you are on Cat Ba Island, it is easy to reach by scooter, which can be rented from your hotel or from any shop. There is a small parking lot available where you can leave your vehicle free of charge.
To enter the cave there is an admission fee of 80,000 VND, which also includes access to Cat Ba National Park. This allows you to explore the various hiking trails within the park. For more detailed information about the hiking options, you can refer to this post (Hiking in Cat Ba National Park).
The cave is 300 meters long and has a separate exit from the entrance, so… It’s a tunnel. As you navigate through, you will have to go up some stairs. If you want to avoid hitting your head against the low ceiling, you will have to crawl in some sections. The humidity inside the cave is quite noticeable. It’s a short walk, even if you often stop and have a slow pace, exploring the entire cave would not take you more than 20 minutes.
There are no thin and long stalactites or stalagmites, but the cave features interesting rock formations. While it may not be the most beautiful cave in the world, the geological formations within it will catch your eye.
At the exit there is a bar where you can have a snack or a drink. To return to the parking lot, you will need to walk 500 meters along the road.
It’s a cool stop on the way to Cat Ba National Park. It’s worth a visit.
