Porto Roxa is a beautiful bay (fjord shaped) in Zakynthos similar to Porto Limnionas, Porto Steniti, or Porto Vromi. The big difference compared to the others is that Porto Roxa is the most developed and the best adapted for tourists to spend a relaxing day.
How to get there
It’s located on the west coast of Zakynthos, about 45 minutes by car from Zakynthos Town and only 2 km from Porto Limnionas. The roads are good, only in the last 10 minutes it becomes narrower and more winding. However, they are perfectly paved, so driving with a bit of caution should not pose any problems.
You can park your car in any of the parking lots of the restaurant , or alternatively, at the far end you will find more free parking spaces (here).
Porto Roxa beach
Porto Roxa is characterized by being a bay conditioned for tourism. Despite not receiving many travelers, it has all the facilities you might need to spend a good day at the beach. There are two main areas: the bay and the restaurant area.
Bay zone
The bay is on the left (facing the sea). Here you have a rocky area along the coast where you can sit and relax (there is not much space and no sand).
The access to the incredibly clear water is through these rocks, so water shoes will make this task much easier. Additionally, although the marine life is practically nonexistent, we recommend bringing a snorkel mask to explore the rock formations, especially in the narrower part of the bay. The sea bed is rocky and steep in the first meters.
Another option to access the water is by jumping from a ledge that has been adapted with wooden planks. The height is about 4-5 meters. We recommend checking the depth before jumping as it can vary depending on the tides.
At the rocky area you will find hardly any shade; however, between the parking lot and the bay, you will find some shelters and benches, as well as a bar, where you will be protected from the sun.
Restaurant zone
In Porto Roxa, you will find 3 restaurants where you can eat quite good and cheap traditional Greek food. However, they are only open from early May to late September/early October.
Additionally, they have created an artificial pebble beach and equipped it with sunbeds, umbrellas, and Balinese beds (belonging to the restaurants). The sunbeds are usually free; however, if you want one of the luxurious options, you will need to spend around 10-20€ at the restaurant (for example, a cocktail).
Porto Roxa is a good place to watch the sunset, like other places such as Plakaki, Navagio Viewpoint, Korakonisi, or Myzithres Viewpoint.
The bay is quite beautiful and has several things to offer. However, it is not the most pristine place on the island and is geared towards tourism.
