Los Dragos Hike stands out not only for being in the area with the highest concentration of dragon trees in the Canary Islands, but also for the presence of natural caves considered an archaeological and ethnographic site.

    How to get there

It’s located in the northwest of the island, 45 minutes from Los Llanos and 1 hour 25 minutes by car from Santa Cruz de La Palma. The roads are good, though they become a bit narrow as you get closer to the destination. You can park in the Las Tricias neighborhood, specifically here (location).

From where you park, it’s about a 6 km (2.5 hours round trip) walk along a slightly steep path. You can do it as a linear route or as a circular one, returning via the road that passes by the gofio museum.

You’ll start on a cobblestone path through farms, orchards, almond fields, and… ancient dragon trees! Most of them are found in this area, at the beginning of the hike, creating a unique landscape. Along the way, you’ll see several self-service stalls selling handicrafts, books, and souvenirs. You take what you want, and if you’re honest, you leave some money in a box.

At the bottom of the ravine are the Buracas Caves. Historically, they were inhabited by the Awaras, the ancient settlers of La Palma. Later, they were occupied by hippies, and today, they’re home to people seeking to escape the noise and live a quieter life. Still, many of these caves are equipped with electricity, water, Wi-Fi, or even TV antennas.

If you explore the area a bit (there’s no defined path at this point), you’ll find the remains of a spring, wash basins, and several stone paintings (petroglyphs).

    Nearby

Around the area, you will find the Gofio Museum, which offers an immersion into the history of this food, or the Izcagua viewpoint, where you'll have a beautiful view of the ravine.

The hike is quite nice, and the scenery with the dragon trees and caves is very beautiful
