Los Tilos Waterfall is quite a popular spot on the island of La Palma. It’s a waterfall located in a ravine with completely vertical walls, covered by lush vegetation, creating a uniquely beautiful landscape.

    How to get there

It’s located in the northeast of the island, about 35 minutes by car from Santa Cruz de La Palma. The roads are good, though the last stretch (LP-105) is somewhat narrow, so drive carefully. There’s some parking at Los Tilos visitor center (here). Besides, you’ll find another spot 300 meters before (here). Try to get there early, otherwise, it will be full.

The waterfall is right next to the road and fairly close to the interpretation center, about a 10-minute walk. It falls from a height of 50 m, and it usually has water year-round, though it’s worth mentioning that in summer the flow is smaller.

The path is very easy. You’ll walk through a dense forest x and pass through several tunnels before finally reaching the waterfall. There are some stairs that take you to a kind of viewpoint from which you can see the beauty of the ravine from a higher perspective. The landscape is spectacular. You’ll be surrounded by vegetation everywhere, in a very humid environment that feels almost like a jungle.

If you continue after the waterfall, you’ll have about a 20-minute hike where you’ll need to navigate some elevation changes. Finally, you’ll reach a wall with several tunnels that require you to crouch down to get through—some of them are over 200 meters deep.

As a fun fact, the waterfall disappeared in the 1950s due to the operation of a hydroelectric plant. Nowadays, the waterfall is fed by a rainwater reservoir.
