Dominical beach is located between Uvita and Quepos, 20km south and 40km north respectively, on the pacific coast of Costa Rica. It's a 2km long beach bordered by palm trees and a forest. If you are looking for a white sand beach, this is not your beach.
It's easy to reach by car, even with a Fiat Punto. There are many parking spots even though I strongly recommend you to avoid leaving valuable stuff in the car or on the beach. Many locals say that robberies are frequent in the area.
It's one of the most famous surfing spots in Costa Rica. If you are not a pro, you can also go to Dominicalito beach or Uvita beach, more suited for beginners.
You can rent a surfboard in this surf school. The owner is very friendly and the price is ok (8$/1h). The average price is 25$/1.5h around the area.
Sunset is beautiful. In addition to this, it's a good place for stargazing due to the low light-pollution level.
It's not appropriate for snorkeling. It's better to go to a beach in the Marino Ballena National Park.
You can spot monkeys on the trees along the beach.
The hippie culture is very present. Along the beach you will find many stands selling bracelets, earrings, necklaces and these kinds of things. In the area there are also many hostels and local food restaurants.
If you are into surfing you can’t miss this place. Otherwise, it’s not something special.
