Golubinka cave is located in Dugi island. It’s by far the biggest and most astonishing cave in the whole archipelago. It’s around 50 meters long and zigzags from its opening in the sea until a dry chamber. It has two apertures on the ceiling that allow the light to reach the bottom of the cave, leaving an amazing image.

It’s located here. You can leave the car at bahía Brbinjšćica or here. It’s a dirt path, but you can make it even with a Fiat Punto.

Once you have parked, you have three options to get to the cave:

    • By kayak: You can rent a double kayak at bahía Brbinjšćica for 20€. and get in the cave with it. The cave is 600m far from the beach, it’s not tiring at all. A kayak-tour is also offered from that bay.
    • Swimming from Dragon’s Eye: If you left the car at the second location we mentioned, you will see a narrow dirt path (satellite view of Google maps might help). Follow it and after 5 minutes you will reach Dragon’s Eye (more info). Once you are there, you will have to swim 150 m until the entrance of the cave.
    • Walking up to the entrance and swimming: If you don’t want to swim so much, you can walk until Dragon’s Eye and once you are there, keep walking to the right. You will have to walk up some limestone structures. Next to the entrance, there is a useful ledge that you can use to get into the water.

Bear in mind you can’t get in the cave without swimming.

The entrance is somewhat narrow and might be challenging (but funny) with the kayak. You might hit some rocks with it but don't worry, it’s safe… After a not very wide section, you will reach a circular room, and if you keep progressing you will reach the end, an area where you can stand up, go on some rocks, take some pictures and rest.

If you continue 300 meters after the cave, you will find another cave. However, after exploring the first one, you will think that the second one is “just a cave”.

It’s better to go early in the morning because the sea is calmer and there will be less visitors. Although in the end it will depend on the wind…

As we have mentioned before, there are some kayak tours to the cave. This leads to a very overcrowded cave (15 kayaks inside…) that won’t let you enjoy its natural beauty. There are also some boats visiting the cave. Try to avoid the peak hours.

This cave is spectacular, it’s a must if you are on the island. Actually, it’s one of the main reasons to visit the island!
