Korakonissi is a spectacular rocky landscape where you can swim in crystal clear water and enjoy unique views. It is a virgin place that retains its natural beauty. Having said this, if you are looking for a sandy beach, this is not the place for you.
How to get there
It’s located on the west coast of the Greek island of Zakynthos, about 45 minutes by car from Zakynthos town. The roads are quite good, although as you get closer to the location, they become narrower and more winding. However, they are perfectly paved, so driving with a bit of caution should not pose any problems.
If you don't have a high car, we recommend parking in the first dirt space you find (here). There are other spots further ahead, but the path is quite bumpy.
Once you have parked, follow the path until you see a bar (only open in the summer season). To the left, you will see a path to Korakonisi. Although the path is rocky and there are several steps, it is not difficult at all. Additionally, a handrail has been installed to help you. It should take you about 10 minutes to reach the swimming area (here) from the parking lot.
Korakonissi
Upon reaching the “shore”, you will find an expanse of white rock where you can leave your belongings and rest (again, there is no sand). Right in front, you will see the famous Korakonissi arch, to the right a protected bay where you can swim, and to the left a couple of natural pools.
Although marine life is practically nonexistent, we recommend bringing a snorkel mask to explore the rock formations and see the light contrasts underwater. The access is through rocks, so water shoes will also be useful for getting in and out of the water.
The bay is already deep in the first few meters, allowing you to do cliff diving from different heights. You can also dive through an underwater tunnel that connects two swimming areas (about 3 meters).
You will not have shade except early in the morning or late in the day when the sun sets behind the promontory.
On the other side of this mound, there are several caves. However, this side is more exposed and unprotected, so if conditions are not good, it could be dangerous.
There is a bar/restaurant at the top (here) with a pretty cool terrace. It is only open during the summer season, so don't forget to bring water just in case.
It is not a very touristy spot, although it has been growing in popularity lately. In high season, it might be a bit crowded and there may not be enough space on the rock expanse.
It is a place with special beauty. If you have time, we recommend it 100%.
