The Navagio Beach Viewpoint offers one of the most impressive and popular views in the world. A white sand beach sheltered by two completely vertical cliffs almost 200 meters high, where the remains of a shipwreck lie. Additionally, it is worth mentioning the different blue tones in the sea due to the minerals it contains.
Bear in mind that accessing the beach on foot is completely impossible. In fact, boat excursions were previously available , but since January 2024, they have also been prohibited due to conservation efforts and the risk of landslides.
How to get there
The viewpoint is located on the northwest coast of Zakynthos, about a 50-minute drive from Zakynthos Town. The road running from north to south is quite good until you reach the upper half of the island; from there, it becomes somewhat narrower and more winding, especially as you approach the coast. It should be noted that they are perfectly paved.
You can park at the Navagio Viewpoint Parking (location) o a lo largo de la carretera hasta el mirador. No obstante, there aren't many spaces, so it is usually difficult to find a spot during the high season.
The viewpoint
From the parking lot, it will take you 2 minutes to reach a first platform where people usually line up to take photos. This spot is not worth it. On the right-hand side, there is a path along the cliff that will take you to the viewpoint where the cool photos are taken (5-minute walk), where you can get a spectacular panoramic view of the beach and the mountain (approximately here). Additionally, you will find a commemorative bench in honor of a young man who loved this place.
The path is not dangerous, just maintain a safe distance from the cliff. Also, be careful when taking risky photos as it is a completely vertical drop and there is no protection.
The viewpoint is usually very crowded, especially during high season. If you want to avoid the crowds, we recommend going early in the morning or late in the afternoon, although the beach wall and the adjacent mountain might block the sun. The best photos can be taken at midday, when the sun shines directly on the beach and water, or a little before sunset (which occurs on the opposite side of the beach).
Near the parking lot, there are a couple of stalls where you can buy local products, souvenirs, and snacks.
The Navagio Beach Viewpoint is one of the must-see attractions on the island. You can't miss it!
