Porto Steniti is a small but beautiful bay (fjord-shaped) located on the west coast of Zakynthos. Compared to other bays, it is the least known, least frequented, and smallest.
How to get there
It’s located on the northwest coast of Zakynthos, about a 50-minute drive from Zakynthos town. The roads are good, only in the last 10 minutes (the descent from Maries) they become narrower, winding, and quite steep. However, they are perfectly paved, so driving with a bit of caution should not pose any problems.
If you are coming from Porto Vromi Maries, you don't need to go up to Maries and then back down. After two minutes, you will see a dirt road on the right that leads you there. It's quite narrow but manageable, you can even do it with a Fiat Punto.
In Porto Steniti there is no official parking. There is a small area (here) that can hold 3-4 cars at most. It is not a very busy place, but in high season and peak hours, there might not be any space, so you would have to leave the car up and walk down for 15 minutes.
Porto Steniti
Porto Steniti is less known and therefore less touristy than other bays on the island like Porto Roxa, Porto Limnionas, or Porto Vromi. It is the most hidden, but also the smallest of all. As mentioned, few people access this bay by land. However, it is worth noting that tours from Porto Vromi going to Navagio usually make a 15-minute stop here.
There is a small rocky surface (no sand) where you can sit. The water is very clear (and deep), and although the underwater life is a bit lacking, we recommend bringing your snorkel mask to explore the rock formations.
Access to the water is via rocks or natural rocky stairs. If you swim towards the narrow area, you will find that it is longer than it seems and ends at a small beach. Water shoes will be useful as the sea bed is also rocky and steep in the first meters.
If you want avoid the tour groups, you should go early in the morning or in the afternoon. Keep in mind that the sun does not hit the water until around 11:00 AM. After that time, there will be no shade. You will also not find any bar or restaurant in the area, so consider bringing enough water and food.
Porto Steniti is the most untouched bay. The feeling of bathing completely alone there is incredible.
