Porto Vromi consists of two beautiful bays (fyord-shaped) located on the west coast of Zakynthos. They are not popular for being excellent swimming spots but for the boat trips to Navagio Beach and the local blue caves. Still, if you visit either of the two bays, you can spend a relaxing afternoon on the beach and swim in some caves.
How to get there
As mentioned, Porto Vromi consists of two bays that are very close to each other; however, there is a mountain that separates them, and it is not possible to go from one to the other without going up to the villages (Anafonitria and Maries) and then back down (30 minutes by car). To simplify the descriptions, we will call them Porto Vromi Anafonitria (here) and Porto Vromi Maries (here).
Both are about a 50 minutes from Zakynthos town by car. The roads are good, only in the last 10 minutes (the descent from the villages) do they become narrower, winding, and steep. However, they are perfectly paved, so driving with a bit of caution should not pose any problems.
You can park your car in the dirt parking lots of both bays, with the largest one being in Maries. Also you will find next to the parking lot in Maries and Anafonitria a free portable toilet.
Porto Vromi Maries
It has a very small pebble beach where you can relax and access the water. You will find many boats (and people coming and leaving) around, so it is not a special place for swimming. Still, the color of the water is very beautiful.
There is a bar next to the beach where you can get a drink or a snack. It has a seating area under a canopy, which will be the only shade you will find
Porto Vromi Anafonitria
You will also find a small pebble beach. As in Maries, the color of the water is quite beautiful; however, it is not the best place to swim due to the large number of boats around.
In this case, the geological formation of the mountain will provide shade on the beach in the afternoons.
Near both bays is the “Face of Poseidon” (face-shaped rock, here) y algunas mysterious caves (here). However, they are a bit on the outer side of the bay and it could be a bit dangerous to swim there due to the influx of boats.

Both bays are beautiful, the color of the water is incredible, although you will not find the peace you can have in other places.
