    La Cumbrecita viewpoint is located within the Caldera de Taburiente National Park. From the viewpoint, you get breathtaking views of the interior of the Caldera.

    How to get there

    It’s located just 10 km from El Paso, which will take you about 20 minutes by car to reach the viewpoint. The roads are in good condition, although they become somewhat narrow and winding. If you drive carefully, you shouldn't have any problems.

    Due to the limited parking and efforts to preserve the area, visiting this viewpoint by car requires making a prior reservation through the website (reservasparquesnacionales.es). Another option is to reach it on foot via one of the nearby park trails, although these can be quite demanding due to the steep elevation changes.

    The viewpoint is situated at around 1,300 meters above sea level, and offers stunning views of the caldera. The crater has a diameter of 8 km, and the highest point, Roque de los Muchachos, rises to 2,426 meters.

    Regarding flora, the area is notable for its Canary pines, which are endemic and renowned for their incredible resistance to fire. It is also a great place for birdwatching , with species such as kestrels, finches, and others native to the island. Additionally, it is considered an excellent spot for stargazing at night.

    You will find an information booth where you can get advice if you're interested in hiking any of the nearby trails. For example:

    • Lomo de las Chozas: A 3 km circular hike that offers views of the Caldera from different angles. It’s a fairly easy trail.
    • Hike to Pico Bejenado: A 4 km one-way hike with a 600-meter positive elevation gain. The round trip will take you about 3–4 hours.

    The views are beautiful. Go ahead and take a short hike to enjoy different perspectives of the crater.
