Las Hoyas viewpoint offers views of the lava left behind by the 2021 eruption of the Tajogaite volcano, also known as the Cabezavaca volcano.
How to get there
It’s located south of Los Llanos, about 15 minutes away by car (here). The road was destroyed by the volcano's eruption, but a new road has been built that crosses the lava flows. It's perfectly paved, so you shouldn't have any trouble getting there. You can park your car on the side of the road.
Viewpoint of Las Hoyas
From here, you can see the lava flows that reached the sea, the contrast between the lava and the green banana plantations, as well as the villages of La Bombilla and Puerto de Naos. Although these villages were not directly hit by the volcano, some streets and houses are closed off due to volcanic gas concentrations.
There is a 5 km hike around the volcano, but access is only possible through a guided tour that must be booked in advance.
If you’re passing by, it’s worth a stop.
