The Astronomical Viewpoint of Llano del Jable, located at about 1300 meters above sea level, is a well-known spot among astronomy enthusiasts due to its low light pollution and the fact that clouds usually stay at lower altitudes, creating ideal conditions for stargazing. In addition to this, it offers stunning views of the Aridane Valley and the Montaña Quemada volcano.

    How to get there

It’s located on the LP-301 road, about 30 minutes by car from Los Llanos and 40 minutes from Santa Cruz de La Palma. The road is in good condition, so reaching the viewpoint shouldn’t pose any problem. In fact, as you approach the viewpoint, you’ll have several chances to stop by the roadside and enjoy the views. The viewpoint itself also has several spots where you can park.

As mentioned, clouds tend to stay below the viewpoint, which enhances the stargazing experience. Several companies offer nighttime tours, but if you prefer to go on your own, you'll find a pole pointing to the North Star and a planisphere to help you locate the main circumpolar constellations.

During the day, the views are also spectacular. You might catch sight of a cloud waterfall cascading over the mountains. The sunsets are beautiful, and the contrast of black lava, green pines, blue Atlantic waters and sky, and the brown mountains creates a breathtaking landscape.

There are some other viewpoints and spots to pull over along the LP-301 road as you approach.
