The official Tajogaite viewpoint, as it appears on Google Maps, offers full views of the lava and the Tajogaite volcano, also known as the Cabezavaca volcano, which erupted in 2021.
How to get there
It’s located west of Los Llanos, about 20 minutes away by car. The road is in good condition, so you shouldn’t have any trouble getting there. Eventually, you’ll reach a junction where access by cars is restricted unless you are a resident. You can park here on the side of the road and walk to the viewpoint (10 minutes).
Official viewpoint of Tajogaite
This viewpoint is one of the closest spots where you can see the volcano. You can clearly see the vents where the lava emerged, and you can even distinguish the different colors caused by sulfur. Additionally, you’ll be right next to the lava flows, where you can identify different types of lava. The views are both impressive and sobering, reminding you of the destructive power and the suffering caused by the volcano.
There is a 5 km hike around the volcano, but access is only possible through a guided tour that must be booked in advance.
Keep in mind that to reach the volcano, you’ll pass through a residential area, so please maintain silence and respect the people who live there.
