The Gofio Interpretation Museum (MIGO) offers an immersive experience into the history of gofio, a symbol of cultural identity and a source of pride for the Canarian people.
How to get there
It’s located in the northwest of the island, about 1 hour from Los Llanos and 1 hour and 30 minutes from Santa Cruz de La Palma by car. Its location is quite remote; the LP-1 and LP-114 roads are in good condition, but sooner or later you’ll have to turn off and drive along C. El Polvillo. This road is quite narrow with several blind spots, so drive slowly and carefully. Also, Google Maps might direct you to a bad access route (location, don’t take it!). It’s better to take C. El Polvillo from this point (location).
Once you reach the mill, you can park your car on the side of the road. The museum is just below.

The entrance fee is €2.50 (€1.75 if you’re a resident), and this includes access to the museum room and the underground room where the mill is located. Additionally, the guide will share interesting facts about gofio, its historical significance, and the various ways it can be prepared.
In the museum you’ll find samples of the seeds used to make gofio, murals showing its history, preparation methods, and traditions. You can also visit a restored old mill that was once used to grind grains. The guide will also provide you with a couple of papers containing recipes for typical dishes made with gofio.
Nearby
In the surroundings, you can do the Dragos and Buracas cave hike. You will see a landscape with the highest concentration of dragon trees in the Canary Islands, and natural caves considered an archaeological and ethnographic site.
If you’re in the area, it’s worth a visit. It’s not very crowded due to its remote location.
