Fuencaliente Salt Pans is a picturesque spot where the contrasting colors of white salt, black volcanic soil, and blue ocean create a spectacular and unique view in the Canary Islands.
How to get there
They are located at the southernmost tip of the island, in Fuencaliente, about a 50-minute drive from both Los Llanos and Santa Cruz de la Palma. The roads are in good condition, so you shouldn’t have any trouble getting there. Near the Fuencaliente lighthouse, next to the salt pans, there is a free parking lot where you can leave the car.

The landscape stands out for its beauty and mix of colors, which change significantly depending on the time of day you visit. Ocean water enters the salt pans with the tides and becomes trapped between the stones. The sun then evaporates the water, concentrating the salt content and forming salt crystals that produce different color effects. The salt pans date back to 1967, and their activity has continued ever since.

The salt pans have been declared a site of scientific interest due to their role as a resting place for many migratory birds.
Additionally, there is a themed restaurant called El Jardín de la Sal, where you can enjoy excellent seafood.

The views are special; it's worth a visit.
