Thuy Tien Lake, the abandoned water park, was inaugurated in 2004 for the first time. However, it quickly got damaged and degraded, which led to a non profitable inversion. In 2011 it was eventually closed and became an interesting and free attraction for the most curious visitors.
It’s located in the outskirts of Hue, 7 km from the city center. The best way to get there is on a scooter (~120.000 VND/day). Hue is busier than Ninh Binh, but riding around Hue is still much safer than in Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh. Once you get out of the city it will be less chaotic.
At the entrance (here) there will be nobody as it’s abandoned, just keep driving for a couple of minutes more and leave the scooter around here.
If you are afraid of riding a scooter, you can go to the entrance by taxi. Check it out with the app “Grab”.
The famous dragon is located almost on the other side of the lake If you walk along the bank of the lake you might run into a guard. You can either pay him a bribe (~30.000VND), or take another path to the dragon (this one. It’s parallel to the one of the guard).
You can walk inside the dragon and go up to the dragon’s head. There are interesting paintings on the walls and 3D designs. Also, if you walk around the enclosure you will find some other attractions such as water-slides or old sculptures and cars covered by moss.
It’s a very picturesque place. It’s on the way to Khai Dinh mausoleum and the stop is worth it.
