Sea Stars in Phu Quoc - Starfish Beach

Starfish Beach is a series of beaches in the North of Phu Quoc where you can see sea stars in the shallow part, even very close to the beach. It’s a very virgin location thanks to its difficult access that keeps mass tourism away, so its natural beauty stays almost untouched. The fine sand beach, palm trees, crystal clear water, and starfish make it a wonderful place.

To reach this area, you will have to drive to this location. The last section of the road (~ 15 minutes) is sandy and very bumpy. However, you can make it even on a scooter if you are careful.

Once in the parking spot, you will see a big and wide beach with some restaurants owned by locals on floating platforms on the sea. Depending on the sea conditions, you might not spot starfish here. The best location to see them is 1.5 km to the North-East, where you will find more protected areas without currents. Concretely here you can spot many of them lying on sandbars.

You have to keep walking along the coast. You can check out the small sand patches on the way if there are any starfish. The path is sometimes not sandy, and some parts are full of trash from the sea, so don’t go barefoot. Beware also of the dogs of locals living along the path, which can show territorial behavior if you approach too much. After having walked 1 km, you will have reached the spot.

At the beach near the parking spot, many locals will offer to take you on a speed boat to see starfish for 200.000 VND/person; as we said, you can go on your own. They will also offer you water activities such as jet skiing (10’ for 500.000 VND), transparent SUP (250.000), or parasailing (700.000 VND), among others. In addition, this area has sunbeds, umbrellas, and picturesque swings.

Remember that this magical place and its delicate inhabitants are threatened by the presence of trash and disrespectful visitors: do not touch the starfish, do not take them out of the water, and do not arrange them to create a "perfect picture". Starfish Beach, and the northern coast in general, is the only part of Phu Quoc that was more or less preserved from the unreasonable and destructive coastal development happening on the island; everyone is responsible for protecting this nature jewel!
