Rhodes is one of the largest and most famous islands in Greece<\/strong>, part of the Dodecanese<\/strong>archipelago in the eastern Aegean Sea. It\u2019s not known for being the Greek island with the most spectacular beaches. However, you can find some spots that are definitely worth visiting. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Unlike other islands, it stands out for its medieval-style architecture,<\/strong>with Gothic, Ottoman, and Renaissance influences, the result of the presence of civilizations like the Knights of St. John, the Ottomans, and the Italians.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Get lost in the old town of Rhodes<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n

As we mentioned, one of Rhodes\u2019 unique features is its medieval-style architecture. The Old Town<\/strong> is surrounded by walls and charming narrow streets<\/strong>. We recommend walking around the Street of the Knights, the Square of the Jewish Martyrs, Hippocrates Square<\/strong> , and crossing some of the gates like the Marine Gate or Saint John\u2019s Gate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Visit the Acropolis of Lindos<\/strong><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n

One of the most iconic spots in Rhodes<\/strong> is the Acropolis of Lindos. It sits atop a rocky hill with spectacular views<\/strong> of St. Paul\u2019s Bay and the Aegean Sea. It combines remains from the Greek, Roman, Byzantine, and medieval periods.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Truth be told, there aren\u2019t many monuments still standing<\/strong>, so the 20\u20ac<\/strong> entrance fee might feel a bit steep, especially if you add another 7\u20ac<\/strong> for parking (location<\/a>) during the summer months. 
If you\u2019re in the mood for a swim<\/strong>, there are a couple of beaches nearby, including St. Paul\u2019s Bay.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Stroll through the streets of Lindos<\/h2>\n\n\n

Once in Lindos, take the chance to wander through the narrow streets and soak up the calm, traditional atmosphere<\/strong>. Keep in mind that during high season and peak hours, it tends to be quite crowded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Take a dip in St. Paul\u2019s Bay<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n

Very close to Lindos is this small and sheltered bay<\/strong>, ideal for a dip in crystal-clear waters. We recommend going early to enjoy the peace, swim in front of the small white chapel, and relax with spectacular views of the Acropolis in the background.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Both beaches are usually quite busy<\/strong>, and also filled with sunbeds and umbrellas. You can lay your towel on the shore, but waiters from the beach bars will be constantly walking past you. It\u2019s not a peaceful spot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You should find free parking<\/strong> here<\/a>. If someone is asking you for money, you can park on one of the sides of the road before reaching that parking lot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Discover the Anthony Quinn viewpoint<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n

Located on top of Kallithea hill (here<\/a>), about 15 km south of Rhodes Town and 3\u20134 km from Faliraki, this viewpoint offers great panoramic views <\/strong>of Anthony Quinn Bay, Ladiko, and Faliraki. You'll also find a chapel and a ruined house there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This small bay<\/strong> surrounded by pine trees is one of the most picturesque on the island. Its emerald waters and rocky seabed make it one of the best places for snorkeling<\/strong>. There's not much space to lay a towel since the beach is narrow and has sunbeds and umbrellas, so we recommend arriving early. That way, you won\u2019t have trouble finding free parking either (here<\/a>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Head over to Prasonisi Beach<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n

At the southern tip of Rhodes lies this unique beach where the Aegean Sea and the Libyan Sea meet<\/strong>. Although it\u2019s not the best option for a calm swim due to the wind and waves, it\u2019s the perfect spot for kitesurfing and windsurfing<\/strong>lovers. You\u2019ll see many athletes in action, and if you're up for it, you can rent gear or take a lesson at one of the local schools. Also, it's one of the few fine-sand beaches, and the sunset is totally worth it!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n

One of the most popular activities in Rhodes is a boat trip to Symi Island<\/strong>. There, you\u2019ll find colorful houses<\/strong>, taverns by the harbor, and cobblestone streets, all with charming neoclassical architecture<\/strong>. These excursions usually include a stop at one of the beautiful bays for a swim.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The price is around 35\u20ac<\/strong>, the journey takes about 1.5\u20132 hours (depending on the boat and conditions), and you'll usually spend 3\u20134 hours on the island, which is enough to stroll around, have lunch, and even relax in one of the small coves. Located just north of Rhodes Town, Elli Beach is one of the liveliest and most accessible on the island<\/strong>, with a city vibe. Here you'll find the famous diving platform<\/strong>, where you can jump into the sea. If jumping isn\u2019t your thing, you can always chill on one of the sunbeds or at a nearby beach bar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tsambika Beach is touristy but huge<\/strong>, giving you plenty of space to lay your towel and relax on one of the island\u2019s few beaches with fine sand<\/strong> . They also offer sunbed and umbrella rentals, water sports, and beach bars. It's surrounded by hills, and nearby you\u2019ll find the Tsambika Monastery, <\/strong>which offers spectacular views<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the west coast<\/strong> of Rhodes, you can find beaches that are much less touristy<\/strong> than the rest of the island. Fourni Beach is a good example. It\u2019s perfect for those seeking absolute peace<\/strong>, although it\u2019s not a fine-sand beach<\/strong>. There\u2019s a small canteen that also offers sunbeds and umbrellas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the way, you\u2019ll pass by Kastro Monolithos, an old fortress built by the Knights of St. John<\/strong>. If you're in the mood, you can walk around that area, although to be honest, it\u2019s in ruins. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Also, to get to this area you\u2019ll pass through other villages with local taverns<\/strong> and cheaper prices. We\u2019d like to highlight Taverna Amalia, in Apolakkia. Gyros for \u20ac2 and moussaka for \u20ac9! (2025).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A raki in Faliraki<\/strong><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

If you\u2019re into nightlife, Faliraki is your place<\/strong>. This area has the island\u2019s highest concentration of bars and clubs, with music until dawn. It\u2019s mainly aimed at tourists, so you probably won\u2019t find any locals there. From small bars to pubs and clubs, including karaoke spots!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The \u201cremains\u201d of the Colossus<\/strong><\/strong> of Rhodes<\/h2>\n\n\n

\"Coloso<\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n

As you probably know, nothing remains of the Colossus<\/strong>. It was a giant statue of the god Helios. It stood approximately 33 meters tall and was considered one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. It was built around 280 B.C. and destroyed by an earthquake around 226 B.C.Here<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Each summer (from June to September), this place fills with thousands of butterflies<\/strong> drawn by the cool surroundings and the scent of sweetgum trees. It\u2019s an ideal walk to do with family and escape the coastal heat. The entrance fee is 6\u20ac<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Seven Springs is a small oasis of greenery, springs, and natural shade<\/strong>. If you visit this area, you must walk through the water tunnel <\/strong>that\u2019s over 100 meters long (your feet will get wet) and see the picturesque waterfall<\/strong> (here<\/a>). Keep in mind that in summer, there might be little water.

You can park on one side of the road (here<\/a>). There\u2019s also another parking lot further ahead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the heart of the old town, this impressive Gothic palace<\/strong> was the residence of the Knights of St. John from the 14th century. The entrance fee is 20\u20ac<\/strong>and gives you access to explore its halls and courtyards. If you don\u2019t want to go inside, you can always walk around the restored walls<\/strong> and lose yourself in the narrow streets nearby.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In Rhodes, you\u2019ll find old fortresses<\/strong> built atop various hills. Highlights include Kastro Monolithos, Feraklos, and the castles of Asklipio and Kritinia<\/strong>. In the end, they\u2019re all ruins of castles (some better preserved than others) on mountaintops. You can also visit the ancient city of Kamiros<\/strong>, where you'll find an archaeological site.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
