Roca Verde waterfall is located in Bajos del Toro, Costa Rica, Unlike La Celestial waterfall and Gemelas waterfalls, it can only be reached through one path.
It’s an unknown waterfall. People usually visit the other two without realizing there is another waterfall nearby.
To reach this waterfall, you will have to drive through the main road of Bajos del Toro (708) and take the exit to "Finca dos Ríos" (The road is called "Calle de las Delicias"). Both roads are not well paved, but you can make it even with a Fiat Punto. You can leave the car on the side of "Calle de las Delicias".
This area is usually foggy and rainy, it doesn't matter what season it is. It might rain at any time, so expect a muddy and slippery trail.Along the path there are pieces of wood on the floor that will help you.
After walking for almost one hour, you will reach a suspension bridge, and after it, you will see a fork. You have to take the left path avoiding the cabin that is on the right. Continue and after crossing the river again, you will see a barn behind a fence. If you want to visit Las Gemelas and La Celestial, you have to pay 7$ and continue straight. However, if you want to visit roca verde, you will have to take the right path a few meters after crossing the river (There is a sign). Here, in 2022 January, there was none controlling the access.
From now on the trail is more difficult. Signs are scarce and you will have to cross the river several times. Keep progressing in parallel to the river and you will reach the waterfall. It will take more or less 20 minutes from the barn you had seen before. This section might be dangerous during the rainy season…
.
The first section is a bit tiring due to the mud, but it’s not difficult at all. The last one you will have to watch out for when crossing the river and when walking on the stones.
The water has a special color.
It's not busy at all.
Even though it's unlikely to spot any exotic animal, you will be able to enjoy the sounds of the forest/river.
If you have already visited La Celestial and Las Gemelas and you have enough time,it’s worth it. The trail to the waterfall is very interesting. It won’t take more than 40 minutes both ways.
