La Oropéndola Waterfall - Guancaste

Oropendola’s waterfall is located in Hacienda Guachipelín resort, Guanacaste (Costa Rica). You have free access if you stay there, otherwise, you will have to pay 35$/person (lunch included).

If you search on Google, you will not find the accurate location of the waterfall. The real one is the one you can find here. Roads are good, you can make it even with a Fiat Punto.

There is a parking lot where you can leave the car. The hike from here takes about 10 minutes, it’s easy, through a forest and you will have to cross a hanging bridge. In addition to this, you will be able to spot some different types of butterflies and the typical blue Copetona magpie.

There is a small wooden platform/viewpoint at the waterfall (quite small tbh). The waterfall is 25 m high and it creates a suitable pool for swimming. You can access it either from the platform through a ladder or jumping from some rocks.

It’s sheltered between the mountains so there is shade almost the whole day. Around 11 is when the sun will enlighten the waterfall (it's more beautiful then)

It’s busy, mostly by guests of the resort.

In the resort, you can also visit Las Chorreras waterfall, the red pond, the black river waterfalls, hot springs, or do tubing, canopy or horse-riding.

The waterfall is beautiful, but 35$ is not worth it. In case you want to visit the waterfall, it’s better to book a night in the hotel (~100$/2P) so you can visit the other attractions.
