World's Top 4 Rafting at Pacuare River

Pacuare river is known as the fourth best river for rafting in the world by National Geographic. It’s located in Limón region, Costa Rica.

Ticos River Adventure Ticor River Adventure is one of the companies that offer the excursion. It lasts around 5 hours, with a 45 minutes-break on the side of the river to have a typical Costa Rican lunch (included in the price). The raft is for 6 people + one guide. A rescue kayak will be following you in case someone falls (don’t worry, chances are low).

You will start in a private farm called “Tres Equis” , 1h 30’ from Limón by car. The access is not complicated, even for a Fiat Punto. You will leave the car there and they will drive you to the rafting spot.

The trail is constantly alternating between rapids (up to level 4, the maximum for non-certificated people) and pools areas where you can just let the current do its job (actually, you can even swim). The landscape is astonishing, rugged canyons, verdant tropical rainforest. You will go under waterfalls and through thrilling rapids.

 At the end of the activity there is a bar where you can have a shower. The van will be waiting for you and will take you back to the farm.

Don’t forget to bring spare shorts or swimsuit, as well as a light cotton long-sleeved shirt for rafting. In addition to this, bring a “wet” pair of sneakers. A cap is also welcome. And sunscreen!

The guides are very fun, professional, and make the activity even more enjoyable.

You also have the possibility to do a two days rafting trip, traveling almost 40 km down the river. Different types of accommodations are offered, with a price range corresponding to the comfort provided. 

Rains usually modify the river formation, so every year it’s a different rafting experience. The flow of the river itself is strongly affected by the weather, and the best period to do this activity is the rainy season.

If this is your first time doing rafting, don’t be afraid, you can do it without experience.

You can spot monkeys and birds such as toucans and oropendolas during the activity.

The price might seem too high, but bear in mind that it’s a 5-hours-activity and lunch is included. The minimum price you will find in Costa Rica will be 50€ for 2 hours, but not in Pacuare River.
