Triopetra Beach is a 1.5 km long beach that is known for its unusual rock formations and crystal clear water.

Located in the southern region of Crete, it’s a 42 minutes and an 1 hour drive respectively from Plakias and Rethymno. Roads are good, a little narrow in the last section, but you can make it even with a Fiat Punto. You will enjoy stunning views of remote beaches and of the coastline in general.

The beach is made up of small stones rather than sand. The rock formations at the eastern end are a word to behold. They are three enormous rocks that are stunning from both land and water. We recommend you to snorkel and explore the fascinating underwater cracks and crevices. Among the fauna, you will see the typical Mediterranean (and Red Sea) species, such as rabbit fish, flounders, seabreams, wrasses, parrot fish or lionfish. The excellent underwater visibility is worth mentioning. 

There are some Greek taverns at the end of the beach. You can also rent sunbeds and umbrellas. In addition to this, near the rocks there is a small cave that will give you shade. Also the rocks themselves will protect you from the sun depending on the time of the day you are visiting the beach.

It’s not touristy at all. Like in most of the beaches in Greece, the left side is naturist.

If you are around the area, it’s worth a visit. It’s quite remote and the underwater rock formations are incredible.
