Komolothi is a very particular landscape lost in the middle of nowhere. They are soft white clay pyramids that emerge from the ground and rise several tens of meters, creating a unique scene.

It’s located on the way to Elafonissi beach, specifically 40 minutes from Chania. The roads are a bit narrow but well-paved, so you can make it even with a Fiat Punto. Once there, you can park in one of the spots on the side of the road and walk to the pyramids.

The pyramids are made of clay. You can try to climb to the top from the right side. However, it won't be easy and you'll get covered in dust and sand. It's a rather unknown place, there are no organized tours or anything like that, so it's possible that there won't be anyone there when you go.

It's a strange place, it feels like another world. The area is small, so you can explore it entirely in 15 minutes. If you're hungry, we recommend grabbing something in the nearby village (Potamida); it's quite local.

It's worth stopping by if you're on your way to Elafonissi.
